Update and Sunday's Devotion

We're all on pins and needles waiting to hear something from them and I wish there was something to report. The flight status for KQ 103 still shows enroute which would mean that they're either about 4 hours late at this point and really tired of being on the plane or the airport is just slow at updating their system. Chances are, it's the latter.

Pray that as they arrive in Nairobi, the money exchanges and customs go well and the visa process goes smoothly.

Aaron sent daily devotions for the blog so that we could participate with the team each day if desired. They will begin on Sunday morning at 8AM, Nairobi time. The devotion will be posted each day for the next day's devotion. If you would like to participate with them at about the same time they are doing theirs, you'll need to set your alarm or stay up until midnight. :)

Kenya 2008: A guide for your time alone with God
The following devotionals were taken from The Message Remix: Solo.

Sunday July 20th - 1 Samuel 17:31-40

READ: While you read, let the scenario unfold in your mind. When David describes grabbing a bear by its throat, hear the roaring and grunting. Feel the ponderous weight of the bronze helmet, and then the light, smooth weight of the stones in your hand.

THINK: What one particular event, character, or feature of the story stands out to you? Take time to concentrate on that. Are you drawn to David’s courage? Are you repulsed by Saul’s disbelieving “God help you”? Maybe you’re surprised when David rejects Saul’s armor. Consider what your own reaction would be, and then consider how the characters in the story reacted. As you meditate, allow God to show you more about yourself, him, and the way life is.

PRAY/LIVE: Author Henri Nouwen wrote, “Make the conscious choice to move the attention of your anxious heart away from the waves and direct to the One who walks on them.” What do you feel anxious about, if anything? What might happen if you shifted your attention “away from the waves” and “to the One who walks on them”? What concrete thing could you do to help redirect your attention?
