It’s almost time…
One week from today our team will be on their way to Kenya. Last minute purchases for skirts and matching t-shirts :), meds, earplugs, travel size toiletries and probably quite a few high carb/high protein snacks are being made. There will most likely be a stash of the best energy food of all - Skittles and Hot Tamales!!
Recently, the team met at the church for training, prayer and to pack shoes. For several months, they have been meeting monthly and praying for specific needs using corresponding photos of people in Kenya. After each need was prayed for, that photo was attached to a map of Kenya. The prayers continue but the map is now complete and it’s time to go! Photos of that are below.
After the training and prayer time, they sorted and began packing the hundreds of pairs of shoes that filled the church foyer. Church family and others from the community generously donated the shoes. The airline allows each team member two suitcases and one of those was brought up to the church to fill with shoes and other necessary supplies for bible teaching fun for the children and for construction projects. Photos of this are also below.
The shoes will be given to the children in the community they will be serving. They plan to put in a concrete floor in the school that these children attend. The people in this community have a problem with bugs called jiggers that attach themselves to their feet and then lay eggs under their skin and nails. They feel that having shoes and a floor in the school will help this problem tremendously.
Early this coming week, the suitcases will be filled up, closed up and ready to go and the team will be as well. They leave at around 3am Friday morning! Please continue to keep those that are going and their family members that will be staying behind in your prayers. It will definitely be a bittersweet departure for all - but not without HOPE!
